That's so fetch!

Mama needs new shoes! Okay, maybe not, considering I have a whole tree of them growing in my room. So I don't need new shoes but it's hard to resist the Farfetch sale when that I can get gorgeous and hard to find designer shoes for 30% or more off.

It's true what they say: "age ain't nothin' but a number." What "they" don't necessarily tell you is that the flipside to looking young and beautiful for longer (like me) is that it kinda turns you into a big kid.

Which should be okay, but it's not because you are not a big kid. You are a grown up with reponsibilities and duties, and you just need to grow up already and start taking life a bit more seriously before you die!

Or so I've heard.

One of these supposed functions of being a grown up is to buy grown up clothes, which means not throwing away the housing deposit on one trip to Primark but instead saving for a wear forever "investment piece" (AKA blow the entire month's rent on a dress you'll wear once and then toss to the back of your wardrobe as long as it's designer). Which is why I have resolved to buy one grown up, investment piece before I die.

There's never been a better the time to do it, while stunned retailers everywhere declare silly season on their merchandise in order to shift as much as possible before the financially crippled masses stop buying altogether. Basically, designer clothing is going for dirt cheap these days, so why not "invest" now?

However, being the big kid I am, I still can't help gravitating towards the primary coloured, fun-looking, one-season-wonder fare. Like this dress:

It's gorgeous and totally unsuitable as an investment piece. In other words, it's perfect, I'll take it.

It's confirmed, there is another Vivienne Westwood sale on Saturday!

Step away from the shoe sales!

My thoughts on buying shoes at sale time run something like this:

Before I hit the shops: Hmmm, time to buy a decent and reasonably priced pair of sandals and maybe snap up a pair of sturdy shoes/boots that'll see me through Autumn.

Once I'm in the shops: Shoes, lovely shoes and all so cheap! Shop assistant, I'll have every pair you've got in my size!! Yippee!!! *gibber, gibber*

Trust me, loosing your mind in the presence of shoe choice overload is not the most useful way to approach the sales. All you end up with is a load of cheap shoes many of which you will never wear unless you live in a place of perpetual summer and have genetically modified centipede feet...

Okay thinking about what that would look like is really freaking me out... Moving on...

So this summer, I've decided for my mental health to do a little forward planning and set a tight budget. First I'm online checking out what might be onsale and deciding what I need to buy. Then, I'll go see if I can find what I want in the shops and hopefully return with only one pair of summer sandals and - if I'm lucky a nice pair of boots.

Hello! Where were we..?

I know! I feel like I haven't posted for ages. First off, let me just say Happy New Year to you all lovely readers and thank you for continuing to drop by even during my going xmas AWOL. It's been a hectic and fabulous break and it's good to be back.

So what've I been up to? Well, in no particular order:

• Xmas parties. Eating enough to feed a small elephant and drinking enough to tranquilize said elephant. For a month.
• Wore my lovely new purple platform lace-ups at every opportunity and to the universal approval of my adoring fans (okay friends and fam)
• Slobbed around in the bloke's padded lumberjack shirt, eating leftovers, watching xmas telly (I was rather underwhelmed by the latest Doctor Who xmas special. It was bit rubbish really, which is a shame cos I lurve me some Doctor, yes I do!) and recovering from various states of hangover
• Xmas pressies. I got the coolest presents from the bloke, including a fabulous diamante bib choker from Polkadot (I loved it so much I wanted to wear it slobbing around in the lumberjack shirt but I didn't want to get any leftovers on it), Tom Ford Black Orchid Perfume, Ted Baker red fingerless mittens

• Got a year older. It was my birthday on December 30th. I hate my birthday. It falls in that no-man's land part of the year when everyone's full of xmas turkey, broke from xmas shopping, gone on xmas holidays and not interested in any parties until New Year's eve. Which means that nothing much ever happens on my birthday. Even my parents forgot my birthday once. (Hi Mom! Hi Dad! No, still haven't forgiven you; I was 12 years old!). Anyhoo, I did get a rather spiffy, brand-spanking-new bike for my birthday, which gave me an excuse to buy a totally rad, shiny red Bell helmet. Didn't do the sales. Two reasons for this: Reason the first, this winter's sales have been so uninspiring so far. Most of the stuff I've seen has either been still too expensive even with price cuts or just too cheap and dull to even bother with. Reason the second, I am going to have the brokest arse January of my life because the bloke and I are moving into a new place together, which means a healthy wodge of cash is going towards deposits and other expensive stuff (hardly a motivator for sales shopping!) Of course I will still do my sales picks for you guys (why should you have to suffer?) I do have to warn you though, it is slim pickins out there.

Sales surfing - How now Browns!

Oh my. I think I may be in love. With a dress. And this is no passing fancy. No common fling. I fear, this time it is the real thing. It was, of course, love at first sight. The fabulous curves, the colourful silk. I can't help myself. But the dress is just way out of my league. Even though it's half the price it used to be. There is only one flaw - that gawdawful bow! I also love this dress by Marios Schwab, £375 (are you seeing a pattern here?) The only trouble is those turquoise beads, which I would have to pick off one by one in order to wear it.

Sales surfing - bargain boots

Continuing my sale odyssey on the information super highway... These days, you just don't know when you're going to find something you like or whether you've just missed out on a bargain, so it pays to be vigilant.

I came across this site called Shoe-shop (obviously hiding in plain sight with a name like that!) which sells shoes from most of the well-known brands and currently has a sale on. Oh joy of joys, they had these Bronx slouchy, funnelly, pirate boots that I've had my eye on ever since the start of the season, reduced from £99 to £60.I've also been in search of some supercute, superugged, flat calf-length boots since my old faithfuls are now on their last legs. These moulded plastic soled ones from Doc Marten look like the perfect replacement and are reduced from £84.99 to £60. Sweet!
Now all I have to do is decide which pair I like the best... Aah, who am I kidding? I want them both.

Sales surfing - Treasures to treasure

Recently, I find myself spending quite a lot of time idly surfing the interweb for sales items. Today I came across a site called Polkadot who do a nifty trade in beautiful and unique vintage jewellery. Best of all, they've got an up to 50% sale on.

I totally drooled over some of the more dramatic pieces like the Yve Speight choker. I've been dreaming of wearing it with amazing off-the-shoulder gowns and my hair in a chignon. It is sooo Cinderella. And the ruby ring makes me think of the decadence of a Russian Tzarina. I want them all.

Going... going... Coast ballerina skirt, £45

I was just doing a leisurely browse of last minute sale items (is it just me, or are the sales now so totally random that you don't know which ones are on or when anymore?) and I came across this perfect little ballerina skirt from Coast reduced to £45.

This is a perfect party skirt to wear with either plain long sleeved tops (or leotards for the full ballerina effect) or pretty party tops.

I only ever shop Coast during the sales as that's the only time I can remotely afford them but I really like their stuff. They've only got sizes 10 and 14 left, so get your skates on if you want to bag one.

PS: Did anyone make it to the Vivienne Westwood sale? I didn't cause I was nowhere near ready to get out of bed at 10am. I'm gutted. Cheer me up by showing me what you got... please?

Westwood just presses all my style buttons, with the slouchy, deconstructed jersey and the constructed dresses and the high, high platforms. I can't get enough of her. Unfortunately, I can only afford her in the sales, which is why I am so looking forward to Saturday.

To prepare myself, I had a little root around t'internet, as you do. After looking at the A/W collections, I can barely contain myself. I don't think there'll be anything in the sale from those collections, but a girl can still swoon and dream and ogle.


Gold Label
The grown-up stuff with serious structure and corsets a-plenty. I am seriously in lurve with that black dress.



Red label
Who knew work wear could get so funky? Look at that red skirt suit!

Anglomania
Funky, quirky, downright cool, this is my favourite label. Obviously.



Shoes
I would do very bad things to own a pair of those fantastic three buckled shoes. And dont even get me started on those boots.
